The more time we spend with a song, the more little clues it begins to reveal. At first, we may only notice the chorus or a favorite line. Later, we start noticing how one phrase seems to pull naturally toward the next.
A repeated lyric may signal that a chorus is approaching. A rising melody may create anticipation. A moment of tension may leave us expecting resolution. Before long, we begin sensing where the song wants to go even before it gets there.
There’s lots of clues inside our songs. The words, melody, phrasing and chord movement often work together to point the way forward. Each one leaves breadcrumbs for the next.
We’re starting to discover some these connections. They make songs feel less mysterious and more familiar. What once seemed unpredictable begins to feel dependable. We start recognizing landmarks and learning how different parts of a song support one another.
You'll encounter these ideas again in the Jamnasium workouts and the PlayAlong Circle songs. The goal isn't to analyze every detail or turn every song into a theory lesson. The goal is simply to become more aware of the clues songs offer and a little more comfortable following where they lead. Start using the ideas I talked about in this video, invent your own and find what works best for you.
